In light of the positive comments in the exhausts on ebay thread ( Link Talk-Exhausts.-Exhaust on ebay)&InSkin=BlackKnight&InPage=1 ), I thought I'd create a new one, with a slightly better title. At least it will start with the photos and video to save anybody that is interested ploughing through pages. Hopefully Bedouin can sticky this one at the top as a British made alternative to the big names? I think it's unfortunate that they don't have a catchy name and you can only buy them on ebay but I'm happy with them (although do note my comments on the previous thread about the difficulty I had getting the stock heat shields on – could just be me though, bike DIY aint my thing).
Anyway here's the photos and a couple of new ones.

Yes, impressive set up there Ian. Excellent quality and plenty of bass in the note.

The bass was simply a sound sent from heaven. Never heard such a sweet sound coming from a bike. I am convinced these are the best and will be changing just as soon as I have finished messing with my current projects.

Lovely sound, absolutely beautiful.... I may well have to invest in these. Any alteration to the tune required?

P.S. Nice scotty on pic No 2.

I won't believe it until it has been officially denied.

Well spotted Colin, although he's a Westie actually (what would you know about dogs from Scotland?!). No change to the tune yet, doesn't seem to pop anymore than it did before. Still might try the famous Dizzie tune at some point in the future though.

I was amazed with the sound and the look of these exhausts when I saw them on Ian's bike at the weekend!

I have run with short tors with and without cat but these just put them totally to shame, fabulous deep sound, not harsh like catless tors but mellow and awesome.

Build quality looked fabulous too, they make a shorty exhaust for the rocket as well which are also the best I have ever heard on the rocket - well worth what seems a reasonable cost for what must be the Rolls Royce of exhausts for the bird!!

Hm, wonder if they make some for the speed triple

Oak,
Firstly let me say - great thread.

Secondly, what exhaust did you have previously.

I have the cat less short tors - love the loud sound but hate the grandpa look. Your pipes are definitely the best there is in a limited range for the bird.

Are they still loud? I'm keen to get some but wouldn't consider spending that kind of money for a quieter exhaust system.

Thoughts??

Dan

I would say they were loud but not 'in your face loud'. The bass tone is stunning and should be made into a soundtrack - noticably different to the TOR's.

Dan,
It's all very subjective. I had long TORS but with CAT, so can't give a completely fair comparisson. If you want Harley loud (and there's nothing wrong with that, horses for courses), then you probably need a Harley, I don't think any system will make our bike of choice that loud. However, I think you will find that this is considerably louder than what you have, particularly under load (big smile leaving traffic lights).
The best person to ask about exact comparisson to your set up is Midge or Wizard as they've both had short TORS with no CAT and have heard mine.
Cheers
Ian

Having had the opportunity this last weekend to directly compare Oak's sound to my catless tors. I would say that the catless tors may be very slightly louder under throttle but near as makes little difference. However, that said the catless tors give a sharp blatt type note, whereas Oak's pipes give a throaty growl with a much better bass. On the move (having followed him for almost 50 miles) the note is equally impressive.

If I could choose to spend money on more exhausts, I would as the sound is better in my opinion, unfortunately I cannot justify diverting funds from other things so I will just have to make do with listening to Oak's symphony when we meet.

two differences that also separate our bikes are Oak has a 1700 with a second crossover pipe, I have a 1600 and only the front crossover.

I may try welding a crossover pipe between the two elbows next year to see what effect it has, If I can get access to a TIG welder it may cost no more than ??20 to try it. Now thats more my budget.

Great sound and thanks for sharing, it seems that there is no decel popping either, I have a mixed reaction to the popping I get from my setup; I like it sometimes and not some others. Now, apart from the fact that they are fitted to that odd blue and white coloured bike (we haven't had that fight for a while) sorry I couldn't resist is the shape of the muffler relatively straight sided or flared a bit? It is not easy to tell from the photos. I have a preference for the megaphone shape, hang over from my childhood probably all the "hot bikes" had megaphones fitted .

Cheers, Max

Max, they aren't flared at all so probably not for you (but then again if you don't like the blue bikes you obviously have strange tastes!)

I get some popping on decel but only one or two when riding and at the right rev range when going down the gears.

Good onya Oak, you beat Frank to the mark; he has that strange colour combination too and insists on defending it don't get me wrong, they don't look bad by any means, I just prefer a slightly flared shape.

They do have a nice sound though. As always the in-the-flesh view is probably the best the selling point. I'm happy with my Stainetunes but, as with everything and it goes to the strength of these machines; we have so many options that work well and we are spoilt for choice. I for one, don't like the look of the Forans but I do like their sound and I certainly respect the decision of my mates who have fitted them. Following Jimbo, for example (I can't remember when I was in front of him for long) is an aural pleasure (from the bike obviously) and I certainly understand why he likes his Forans.

I hope the Platts work well for you.

Cheers, Max
